Back to Munich....

At the top of the Zugspitze Day 3 took us by train first to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, site of the 1952 Winter Olympics, and then by cog railway to the top of the Zugspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany. The weather was not entirely cooperative, with clouds blowing in and out (mostly in). We did get a bit of sun, which shone quite nicely on the glaciers at the top of the German Alps.

When the sun was briefly shining and clouds had lifted temporarily, we found a helpful tourist to take our picture. "Get the mountain behind us," we said, as he framed the shot. He had a funny expression on his face, which I assumed meant he didn't need photographic advice. Then we turned around -- in the 15 seconds it took him to frame the shot, the mountain had disappeared behind clouds...
The top of the Zugspitze
Another break in the clouds showed us the peak of the Zugspitze. We decided not to take the cable up to the top since the weather was so poor. And because I'm none too fond of cable cars myself. But the views would have been nice.

On the way down the mountain, we got off at a tiny town because this church caught our eye. We wandered around while waiting for the next train, had a beer at an outdoor cafe, and headed back to Munich for the evening.

On to Prague....
